Dear colleagues, friends,

Although 2011 was a year without the iAAID general congress, our group remained very active:

- continuously contributing to "The International Journal of Occlusal Stomatolgy & Medicine" which just completed its fourth issue of 2011 - see the website http://www.springerlink.com/content/1867-2221
- helping with the last Summer School of Lisbon-Portugal which was a remarkable success
- contributing to the Moscow interdisciplinary conference - so well organized by Mikhail Soykher and the local group piloted by Marina
- supporting our Japanese friends for their next congress in Yokohama, led by Sadao Sato, organized by the iAAID-Asia and its president Satoshi Aoki
- participating in the “clubbing of science”, this new concept, like a scientific forum, recently proposed by Rudolf Slavicek

Our academy is growing. Under the leadership of “Rudi”, we are developing philosophical, scientific, and technical concepts. Our treatment concepts are echoed all over the world. But it is not enough to have ideas and tools with indisputable clinical expertise. We still must establish the concepts at a deeper-rooted scientific level, with more precise and efficient decision making criteria and more scientific evidence. This is the only way we can share our “school” with more outreach and also open our own minds.
All of this will be continued during 2012, through clubbing, Summer School (July in Vienna), the general congress at the end of next November in Vienna, and the meetings of our sister academies.
During the new year, these various events will give us the opportunity to find more members, more knowledge for students and teachers, and especially more efficiency for our patients.
Knowledge without friends is nothing. We will always need more friendship throughout the world: this is what IAAID wishes all of you for 2012.

Jean-Daniel ORTHLIEB, president of iAAID

International Smile & Friends Symposium

It is a great pleasure to announce the 1st International Smile & Friends Symposium that will be in Rome on May 4-5, 2012.

This two days event will feature recent findings from leading clinical and academic experts in Dentistry.

The Symposium will present the latest important developments in contemporary interdisciplinary therapy. For the first time, Dentistry through world Top Speakers is involved in promoting help to children with dentofacial deformities .

The Symposium will support OPERATION SMILE (www.operationsmile.it), one of the largest worldwide international humanitarian organization that since 1982 provides free reconstructive surgery for children born with facial deformities, primarily cleft palates and lips. We hope that this event provides a unique opportunity to change the smile and the lives of these children.
